AFRICA AT LAST

“Can you just teach me how to pray?” Three years ago this question was asked of me (Eric) by Jibbi, a new believer, during my first trip to The Gambia in West Africa. I was sitting with him, explaining some basics of the Christian faith and soon realized that he needed even more teaching than I anticipated. This question has been haunting me ever since.

At the time, Jibbi was the only Christian in his village; he had accepted Christ at a JESUS film showing a few months prior to my visit. He lives among Muslims who did not approve of his faith in Jesus and lives one and a half days away from the closest pastor or Campus Crusade staff. He cannot read and has no way to learn and grow in his faith on his own.

There are millions of people like Jibbi that move my heart with passion to see new believers resourced with tools to help them grow in their faith, and to equip them to share their faith with others.

On March 2nd, I fly to South Africa for two weeks—filming the first of eleven lessons we are writing to help people like Jibbi. I am heading to Johannesburg (see map) and will spend my time filming in a village about an hour outside of the city. Our prayer is that by the end of the month, we will have a pilot episode finished, teaching assurance of salvation. I will work with our African staff over the next few months, testing the lesson—making sure that it clearly and effectively communicates this important principle.

If all goes well, I will return in early fall to film the remaining lessons, with the plan to have the full video series completed by the end of the year. We plan to make it available in over 100 languages as soon as possible, giving ministries throughout the continent a tool to help them teach new believers.

Thank you for helping to make this needed tool a reality for millions of believers throughout Africa. Please pray for this trip and this project. Campus Crusade staff and partners have been asking for this tool to be produced, helping them effectively teach and disciple new believers. I have included a prayer calendar on the back and would be honored to have you stand with us in prayer.
