AFRICA
- Part
2
As
our team drove down the road to show the JESUS film to the last village
we were planning to visit, David, the Gambian Campus Crusade leader asked
the driver to stop the truck. He explained that there were several new
Christians in the village we were passing that he wanted to speak with
and share more about how to live the Christian life. I decided to go with
him, got out of the truck and we walked into the village.
We found Jibbi, a peanut farmer who had
accepted Jesus a few months ago at a film showing, working in his yard.
We sat under a tree in front of his house and talked for a few hours.
David began asking him questions to make
sure he was being true to his faith and that he had not gone back to practicing
Islam. Even though he is one of the only Christians in his area, has no
pastor, no church and no Bible, he has remained true to his profession
of faith in Christ.
He told us that at the start of Ramadan,
the Islamic holy month, he had a dream. David was standing with him at
a fork in a road. At one end there was a forest fire and the other was
a field. In his dream, David told him to be true to his faith and continue
on the path of truth and not to go back to the path of destruction. His
faith was strengthened by the dream and did not participate in Ramadan.
We began to teach him from scripture and
share the truths of God’s Word. He asked several questions and was eager
to know more. He asked us to teach him how to pray so he could talk with
God. It was humbling to see his faith and hunger to follow after Christ.
Please pray for Jibbi and the others we
spoke with that night. Please pray that God will use these men to bring
the light of His Gospel to a very dark place.
Please pray also for David. Pray that God
would raise up more laborers in that area to help him preach the Gospel
and to build up new believers into an army of Godly men and women.
Allison's
Report
God
is so good! We have had a faith testing few weeks that we wanted to share
about with you.
The Wednesday before Christmas, I had a
colonoscopy done. As many of you know, I lost my precious mother 7 years
ago at a very young age to colon cancer. I had a colonoscopy done 5 years
ago, which was clear. I was due for another test this year.
The doctor came out afterwards and told
Eric that he had found a mass in my colon, and he wasn’t sure what it
was. He took a sample to biopsy, and after I was awake, I had a cat scan
done. I had to wait a week for the appointment.
I put out an email, and had MANY prayer
warriors praying on my behalf. I was overwhelmed by the response and the
love that was shown to me through God and His people. I’ll be honest,
I did have a breakdown and experienced sadness of thinking what it could
be and the seriousness of the situation. But, the Lord is so faithful—He
gave me peace and for the first time in my life, I didn’t worry about
it. HE enabled me to put it in His hands and leave it there. We had a
wonderful Christmas, despite this news hanging over our heads, and celebrated
the birth of our Savior and King.
Today I had the appointment to find out
what it was, and the doctor told me he didn’t know! The cat scan and the
biopsy were both inconclusive! His recommendation is to have another colonoscopy
done in 6 weeks. If the mass is still there, he wants to take another
sample for biopsy, and have me see a surgeon to have it removed.
Before I do that, I am going to get some
second opinions. We are praising God that, while he couldn’t tell me for
sure it’s not cancer, our thought is that since they couldn’t come up
with a definite conclusion, it’s probably not. I believe that it’s related
to the endometriosis that I have, and I am looking into talking to a very
good doctor in Nebraska for more options.
Thank
you so much for your prayers while I was on this trip. I was strengthened
by them and I know the Lord used them to keep us safe and made our work
effective. Thank you for your partnership in our work!
God bless you,
Eric
and Allison
